Motherhood is one of the most magical experiences in life. It starts with tiny kicks in your belly, slowly grows into sleepless nights and suddenly, you’re holding your little one in your arms. It’s love like you’ve never felt before.

But at the same time, it can be scary. It can be lonely. It can be confusing. From morning sickness to midnight hospital runs, from mood swings to mental stress—this journey is not always smooth.

And that’s exactly why safe motherhood is so important.

Because no mother should have to risk her life or her wellbeing just to bring life into this world.

Why National Safe Motherhood Day Matters

In India, we observe National Safe Motherhood Day on April 11th every year. The date marks the birth anniversary of Kasturba Gandhi, and it stands for something powerful:  Every woman deserves safe, respectful, and supportive care during pregnancy and childbirth.

But sadly, not all mothers have that. Many women still don’t get proper medical checkups. Some give birth without trained doctors. Some suffer in silence from complications that could have been prevented. And for working moms, the stress is even more intense—balancing career, home, pregnancy, and mental health can take a serious toll.

This day is a reminder to change that.  To make sure that no woman, whether in a small village or a big city, feels unsafe or unsupported while becoming a mother.

Because a safe delivery is not a luxury—it’s a basic right

Safe Motherhood Is More Than Just Medical Care

When we talk about safe motherhood, most people think of hospitals and doctors—and yes, those are important. But it’s more than that.

It’s about:

  • Getting regular health checkups during pregnancy

  • Having a safe and clean place to give birth

  • Knowing what to expect and how to take care of yourself

  • Getting support at home and at work

  • And just as importantly—taking care of your mental health

A mother’s emotional wellbeing matters just as much as her physical health. She needs rest, love, encouragement, and space to feel heard. Because when a mother is okay, the whole family is okay.

To Every Parent Reading This

From bump to baby steps—wherever you are in your parenting journey, remember to take a breath. You’ve got this.

You’re doing something incredible.  You’re raising a human while growing yourself. That takes strength, patience, and love.

So, here’s your gentle reminder on National Safe Motherhood Day:

You deserve care.

You deserve safety.

You deserve support.

Let’s keep talking about what mothers really need—not just on one day, but every single day. And let’s create a world where every mother has a safe, supported start to the beautiful journey of parenthood.
